T.O.P. uses the National Standard as a guide for minimum requirements regarding farm inputs.
Those growers moving through transition or In Conversion can source "fertilizer" inputs from Certified Manufacturers of soil improvers. In those early phases of progression to full certification there will be difficulties and problems as the grower begins to come to grips with the question on inputs. Soil improvers should not be seen as an end in themselves, but moreover as a transitional tool for converting the farm.
T.O.P. looks to the grower to provide an underlying strategy for the phase out of inputs other than those listed in the T.O.P Standards over the longer term. T.O.P. is always looking for evidence as to the steps (management and in the thinking) that a grower is taking to reduce any dependency on inputs.
